Digital Guest Card
Since May 1st, guests staying overnight in Dornbirn can use public transport throughout Vorarlberg, starting from their arrival, with the digital guest card.
This successful project, which was first launched in the Alpine region of Bludenz in 2019, has now been extended to the Lake Constance-Vorarlberg region. Guests staying overnight can use public transportation across the entire region from the first night of their stay. The digital guest card is also valid for travel to and from border train stations in Tyrol (St. Anton), Germany (Lindau), and Switzerland (Buchs, St. Margrethen). The cost is covered by the local visitor’s tax, which in Dornbirn amounts to EUR 3 per night and guest.
By providing easy access to public transportation, this initiative aims to reduce both CO₂ emissions and traffic congestion. It also offers added value for guests, as accommodation providers can offer this service at no additional cost.
The digital guest card is intended to serve as an important driver for climate-friendly mobility, support local lodging businesses, and offer guests extra value and an incentive to visit the Lake Constance-Vorarlberg region.
The requirement for accommodation providers to offer this service is a daily updated, digital guest registration system. Guests will receive their digital guest card on their smartphone before arrival, which serves as a valid ticket on all lines of the Vorarlberg Transport Association (VVV), including to the border train stations.
Dornbirn’s Deputy Mayor Dr. Alexander Juen welcomes the initiative by Bodensee-Vorarlberg Tourism:
“Now, guests can directly benefit from our excellent transport network, and the city gains added tourism value at no extra cost. It’s a win-win situation that justifies our years of negotiations.”
