During guided tours from May through September 2026, visitors can discover Dornbirn from new perspectives. This year’s diverse program once again includes exciting guided tours on a variety of topics.
The public guided tours take place on various weekdays and invite visitors to explore Dornbirn’s history, culture, and special sites. In addition to the popular regular tours, the program also features new themed tours.
Villas, a vanished tower, and a house shrouded in legend: Dornbirn’s Oberdorf
Amid industrialists’ villas, former industrial buildings, and the parish church of St. Sebastian, we immerse ourselves in an era when tradition, progress, and modern architecture shaped the cityscape. A special highlight awaits us at Dornbirn’s oldest house, which is steeped in numerous legends and mysteries. Those who once sought a sweeping view of the city would climb the Zanzenberg or have a gloriette built there. Today, however, our route takes us leisurely back downhill—past the former residence of a well-known self-portrait painter and on to an enchanting red villa that brings a touch of Tuscany to Dornbirn.
Women’s Footsteps
This guided tour is dedicated to extraordinary women and their stories from the 19th and early 20th centuries. In a society shaped by tradition, they forged their own paths—as academics, entrepreneurs, workers, inventors, and artists. Learn more about their ideas, their daily lives, and their achievements, and get to know figures who shaped their era in very different ways.

Greetings from Hatlerdorf
This city walk tells the story of traveling journeymen, wandering inns, and the traditions and customs surrounding the fountains in Hatlerdorf. Meeting point: Hanggasse bus stop
Fountain Stories from Oberdorf
Some of the fountains in Dornbirn’s Oberdorf are about 50 years old. However, the locations where they stand and their former functions date back much further. Topics such as craftsmanship, work, art, and community life are the focus of this varied city walk.

From Kehlen toward Haselstauden
Along Kehlerstraße, Dornbirn’s longest street, there were numerous successful industrial businesses, restaurants, and farms. Join us on a journey through time along this historic street. A delightful surprise awaits!

City Traces: Im Gütle
In the mid-19th century, the floodplain of the “Rohrige Au” was developed on behalf of textile manufacturer Franz Martin Hämmerle. The result was a unique industrial complex that even attracted the emperor. In cooperation with the Dornbirn City Archives. Meeting point: Bus stop in Gütle
City Traces Bike Tour
The starting point is the former factory grounds of the textile company Herrburger & Rhomberg. Learn more about industry and politics, the “Hohzebölla,” the Kornberg workers’ housing complex, and the fierce conflicts between workers and employers. In cooperation with the Dornbirn City Archives and the Dornbirn City Museum. Meeting point: Gütlestraße 7

Rappenloch and Alploch Gorges
The Rappenloch and Alploch Gorges were carved into the hard limestone over hundreds of thousands of years by the flowing waters of the Dornbirner Ach and are now among the largest gorges in Central Europe.
Austria Guide Lukas Rinnhofer leads visitors through this impressive landscape every Thursday from 10:30 a.m. from mid-July through mid-September. During the tour, he provides fascinating insights into the formation of the gorges as well as into modern-day life in this unique natural area.
There is an information sign at the entrance to the Rappenloch Gorge. Tickets can be booked online directly on-site using the QR code shown on the sign. The meeting point for the guided tours is at the giant sequoia in Gütle.
